Tchau 20's!

This week I have been anticipating my turning 30 years old! In so many ways I still feel like that high school girl where my biggest worries were keeping my tan up and what I was going to wear to the next dance! ha ha. And now within a blink here I am married, with two kids, a mortgage, and living in a foreign country! Crazy how time flies. But reflecting on the last decade of my life I realize just how much has happened, how much I've grown as a person, and how excited I am for my 30's if it holds even half as many opportunities and experiences as I'm sure it will. I'm so grateful to have had so many wonderful blessings in my life and more and more am realizing what a gift it is to have good health, be around people you love, continue learning, and live in the moment.

So goodbye 20's- thank you for some wonderful times!
  •  Utah State University- college experience
  •  Chi- Omega Sorority (amazing friends and fun times!)
  •  Lived in Hawaii for a Summer and even experienced skydiving!
  •  Served my mission in Rio de Janeiro
  •  Got married to my amazing husband!
  • Experienced the miracle of pregnancy, giving childbirth and now this new journey into motherhood 2x! My little Maile and Lucas.
  • Got into our first home (that is now being rented, sniff, sniff)
  • Traveled to Brazil 6 times, Disneyland, Sea World, Bear Lake, Fernando de Noronha, Porto de Galinhas, Salvador, Rio, Sao Paulo, Lake Powell, Mexico, Zions National Park, and some amazing church history tours in Nauvoo.
  • Went through the temple and have so far been able to visit temples in: Logan, Salt Lake, Bountiful, Timpanogas, Sao Paulo, Recife, Campinas, Jordan River, Nauvoo.
  • Have had wonderful experiences serving in the church as Relief Society teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher, assistant Choir Director, Ward missionary, Activities Committee Chair, Primary Sunbeam teacher, Primary counselor and Primary President
  • Have had jobs like: waitressing at Firehouse Pizza, Ahi's, Rodizio Grill, worked at Jeanie's Flowers, nannied, taught 4th grade, and worked as a personal assistant to RPE for 4 years.
  • Attended the Olympics 2002 closing ceremony which I absolutely loooved
  • Have had some fun Reunions: Chi Omega, mission, family, high school friends
  • And have made some amazing friends along the way!
I feel like as a person I've learned how to soul search, receive answers, take leaps of faith, I realized what I really wanted for my life on my mission, explored dating relationships and found what I was looking for in a companion, learned about forgiveness, value of family, to cultivate old and new friendships, that not all is easy and a lot of my happiness depends on my attitude, to stand up for what I believe, the challenges and joys of being a mom, and oh so much more!

“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey … delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.”  -Pres. Gordon B. Hinkley

Happy Birthday!!!! I will be 30 in 6 months and I was a little scared of that until I read your post. Thank you for sharing this post.

Miiiieesh! Happy happy 30th birthday! Holy cow those 20's are sure going to be hard to beat. Maybe we can pull out the old line of halter tops and go hit up the Skyline! Ahh! Classic. I loved seeing all the pics and having the memories come flooding back. USU, Karaoke and TaeBo at midnight accompanied with muddies of course, 311 concert in Boise!!, Yamel hair, Richard Vierra, living on Bikini beach, floating at Kabela bay the WHOLE 4th of July, Institute and American Idol before our missions, VS dresses turned down for Jody dresses, Missions in South America (our dream!), our calls together, Rodizio grill application on the way home from insta, you meeting Lee ("WHO did you kiss??), your wedding, your babies, Education week with Mark Madsen and now BRAZIL! Wow, I can't believe I have been so privileged to be so intertwined in your life the last decade. You have been such an inspiration to me and I just love feeling of your spirit and having your friendship. Happy birthday sweetheart!!

It's been fun reading about what you've been up to over the past 10 years- I too am now married with 2 kids. Wow, how time flies. I would love to send you email you sometime- you can reach me at katemarki@yahoo.com.

You are so cute MIche and have such a perfect darling family and are so brave to move to Brazil and of course your positive happy attitude gets you through it all. I am always so amazed by you and just love you to pieces. Happy Birthday!
