Happy Easter 2011

Wake up! The Easter Bunny came!
The chocolate ovos here rock! Open it up and get a prize inside.
 They were super yummy!
Happy Easter at CNA: school where I teach English
We had fun making bunny masks, brigadeiro ovos, and learning Easter English words!

What's up Scotty?!

So first of all I am loving this season of American Idol. Very talented! Even our own Scotty McCreery that honestly looks like a 17 year old Lee! ha!  :) I couldn't find the picture that I was thinking of but this one shows a bit of it. Of course Lee denies any resemblance but I just have to giggle every time I see this kid sing cause it looks a bit like a 17 year old Lee. I told that to Maile and now she always points and giggles and says, "That looks like Daddy!" ha ha.

Companheiras Reunited!

This weekend I was reunited with my first companion and trainer, Sister Gomes! Her family was visiting the temple for the holiday weekend from Fortaleza and I'm so glad we were able to meet up! The best part was the fact that when we were companions my Portuguese wasn't so great so there was a bit of a gap in our friendship in that area. This time around it was so great to be able to talk talk talk and remember all our great mission days! :) I remember those first days together and we were like "Of Mice and Men". She was smart little George and I was big Lenny just following her around. I couldn't speak that great and I was going through major culture shock in our poor little area! She was so patient with me and we really had some great times juntas. She is married and has a beautiful little boy- it was fun to be moms together this time around. A whole other mission! :)

Missao Rio de Janeiro- Resende 2003

Mission Highlights with Sister Gomes:  I remember during a visit to a members house their small dog peed all over my skirt in my lap and I couldn't really say anything. I just went up to the bathroom and washed up and later told her the story at home with my dictionary in hand! :) I haven't been fond of dogs in my lap ever since!
Making our "bolo azul" for baptisms! Walking the dirt roads of Porto Real and teaching every person we could in that little town. I remember we taught in the most random places and during the most random times. I remember sitting on buckets once teaching the discussion while a lady was chopping off fish heads in her sink! ha! But we definitely had some spiritual experiences together like being a part of the conversions of Dionisia and Sergio and Tatiane to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We went to Rio on our P-day and it was my first experience seeing the Corcovado and Pao de Acucar and I cried at how amazing it was. To see it after all my Dad had talked about it was really special and to be on my mission there. I remember she teased me a ton about crying how "beautiful" Rio was. :)

Our Little Artista

Maile brought home this family portrait the other day from school and it made me smile!

In Sunbeam class at Church Maile was asked to draw what she was grateful for. She drew this and said that she was grateful for her family and her Barbie princess crown.

Latest Activities...

The Relief Society Birthday activity was quite an event here in Campina Grande! We went to a ranch and spent the day in the sun with horses, a zipline, a pool and lots of irmazinhas (about 60 came from the stake) to get to know better. I had a great time and always admire the conversion stories of these sweet women. I was the official photographer for the day cause I brought my nice camera and brazilians love to strike a pose! So many wanted a profile picture in their bathing suit! You go girl!

We had a really fun Carnaval holiday at Cassia and Edvaldo's house. I was amazed at the beauty of where they live and all the fruit! They gave me this banana bunch off their tree and when they ripened they were so delicious! It's fun how people just love to churrasco and eat fruit and talk all day. I actually liked the coconut milk and inside of the coconut, but I still am not a big fan of 'jaca'. It's such an interesting fruit the way it comes out in little chunks. (the picture with the hand reaching in). It tastes like the flavor of old bubble gum to me. But then again rootbeer tastes like "medicine" to Lee so I guess everyone's taste buds are different mesmo. My favorite thing to see are all the colored clothes hanging on the line in the sun. The background picture at the bottom by the tree shows this- it was far away but I just get so encantada with this!

We started out the year right with some fun Primary activities. This calling has been so wonderful and when you show kids you love them they return it back 100 times! When I first started there were like 3 or 4 kids there at 9am ready to start church. Now after a few months of hard work I just glowed with joy as I started Primary at 9am and saw 20 beautiful children in their seats smiling at me! :) They are excited and eager to learn about the Gospel. I loved in Conference how they said we need to truly "Behold" our little ones.
Maile especially loved the Iron Rod activity we had. She was telling me about her ballet class weeks after the activity and she said they have a "barra de fe" (Iron rod) to hold onto while they dance. :) So cute.

The newest additions to my in-law's ranch is of course a huge mural of Jesus with Simon! :) And the little house for the kids has this picture of Jesus with the children. I love it! But of course who loves it more are all the little grandchildren. It makes me happy to see Maile playing "house" so cute with all her cousins. I love to watch them and hear Thomas say they are making "schopa". (sopa- he talks with the cutest carioca accent).

Pretty much every other day Maile sneaks into my makeup bag and puts on some ruby red lipstick! And yes- she truly comes to life when she does. Oh and of course she still loves to have her hair in "braves."
